If you noticed the satellite view for western North American is not animating or just a blank space where it should be, the GOES West satellite has gone offline. The Satellite Services Division of NESDIS has announced that the Goes-West satellite has gone into an unplanned ‘safe mode’ and can’t give an ETA when it will be brought back online.

I guess we’ll know when it is back online when the images start reappearing in the forecasts.

Solar flares, maybe?

After a few months of tweaking and fixing little bugs we are finally finished the structure of the web site. All forecasts are now more accurate and we’ve added regional weather warnings to the forecasts.

Speaking of regional, this update brings you wider area forecasts for your state, province and even your whole country. You can find the regional forecasts in the top menu bar under USA Weather and Canada Weather respectively.

Have you ever thought that the web site looks a little clunky? As we move into our next phase you will start to see a stream lining of the design and a less crowding of the content. Friendly Forecast is still just a baby site and is still growing.

We have also brought on board 2 new affiliate advertisers that have important products you should consider. www.1800prepare.com is one of the industry leaders in survival kits and emergency supplies, every household should have one because its not if an emergency or disaster will happen, its when and a little preparedness could mean life or death. 3tailer.com has a great selection of Home Weather Stations for the weather aficionado. If you are just looking for a better thermometer or a full reporting weather station 3tailer.com can provide that.

Do you hear that…….?? That’s the sound of no complaints after we got rid of those YouTube videos. After much contemplation it was determined they were not adding any value to the site and just taking up too much space. If you have a complaint or suggestion we would love to hear from you, just leave a comment below and we’ll see what we can do.

Sincerely,

Darshan Montgomery.

After bringing our USA forecasts on line we are still working out some of the minor bugs and hope to have them resolved within the next few months. But, we have added a vast amount of weather and climate information to our USA forecasts and more frequent articles on medium to high profile weather events that can be seen on our home page and along the right hand side bar under the news feeds on the weather forecasts.

Sigh… those YouTube videos along the side. There is some great stuff on YouTube, but its hard to find a good feed to automatically provide the information for us. So, we’ve figured out how to make our own feed and are prepared to deliver more quality videos on the weather forecasts. But, do you want those videos there or just remove them? We would like to know what you think, just leave a comment below.

Those cute seals. We are thinking of personalizing the headers to reflect something significant or unique to the community that the particular forecast is displayed for. We are indecisive about this because those seals are recognizable for ‘brand awareness’, but we are thinking seeing more familiar surroundings in the header might bring a better visitor experience. Check out the header we did for Victoria. What do you think, should the seals be changed up for something familiar in the local forecasts? Maybe even visitor submitted photo’s? Perhaps even make it a contest with prizes?

We look forward to your thoughts!

SIncerely,

Apologies for not providing the latest coverage of the mid-west tornadoes, flooding, Peace River oil spill, our monthly weather roundups and other weather and environmental issues of note. But, we’ve been a little busy around here and hopefully we will get around to our regular blogging come June. We actually have something exiting to tell you.

Friendly Forecast is happy to announce the launch of our American weather forecasts. It’s been about 6 months in the making and we are still dealing with a few bugs. You can access the USA weather forecasts by clicking ‘Home’ then click on the American flag and choose your location. It is our goal to eventually include weather forecasts all over the world under our Friendly Forecast format.

So thank you for hanging in there with us as we strive to make this site better and we will get around to regular article writing ASAP.

Sincerely,

Darshan Montgomery
