			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you noticed the satellite view for western North American is not animating or just a blank space where it should be, the GOES West satellite has gone offline. The Satellite Services Division of NESDIS has announced that the Goes-West satellite has gone into an unplanned &#8216;safe mode&#8217; and can&#8217;t give an ETA when it will be brought back online.</p>
<p>I guess we&#8217;ll know when it is back online when the images start reappearing in the forecasts.</p>

<p>The region continues to be rocked by magnitude 4-5 aftershocks occurring every hour or so. Besides what was reported below there have been no additional reports of major damage or serious injuries.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">UPDATE:</span> March 20, 2012</strong></p>
<p>Approximately 800 homes were damaged, a pedestrian bridge fell on a truck and numerous power lines were snapped throughout the region. There have been no reports of any serious injuries</p>
<p>This earthquake was originally posted as a 7.9 in magnitude and then 7.6 and now 7.4..</p>

<p>Originally the earthquake was reported to be a magnitude of 6.8, it was later increased to 6.9. Many news organizations are still reporting it as a 6.8.</p>
